FAQs

FAQs

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions we answer when dealing with our Sex Worker clients. We try to make everything as clear and straightforward as possible.

Do I have to pay tax on my earnings?

If you earn over £1,000 in self employment you will have to do a tax return to report your earnings. If you earn under £12,570 there won't be any tax to pay, but you still need to complete the tax return for HMRC.

Should I be a sole trader or limited company?

We'd recommend setting up as a sole trader. Firstly from a safety perspective as a Limited company your full name is searchable on the internet, also your month and year of birth. Its likely more information than you want publicly searchable.

There is also a law about contracts being legally enforceable within a limited company, and due to the nature of Sex Worker this can be an issue.

For online content creators a Limited Company could be on option, for people selling in person services we wouldn't recommend it.

What admin do I need to do?

You need to keep receipts for all your purchases for 7 years. Keep track of all cash income and spending. Keep track of any mileage you do in your personal vehicle for business trips. This is all the basics of good admin for your accounts and will make your life much easier.

What tax should I save?

We recommend saving 20% every time you get paid. Tax is usually about 30% of your profit. We suggest 20% as once we knock off allowances and expenses 20% covers the tax payable. Its best to save as you earn the money instead of having to find the money all at once.

Do I have to have a bank account?

We strongly recommend running your business through a bank account separate to your day to day bank account. It makes record keeping much simpler as all your business income and spending is in one place.

How does working with us work?

We will have an intro call to get to know you, answer your queries and understand how we can help. We'll then provide a quote. If you choose to move ahead with us we will then send you the engagement paperwork to get you signed up. We are chartered accountants, work with over 250 businesses and have been running for over 6 years. We are also a female owned business. Once you complete our paperwork we need copies of your photo ID and proof of address for anti-money laundering checks which we are required by law to complete.

Why do we specialise on working with Sex Workers?

Sex workers are small businesses that need the same support as every other business but often struggle to find it. We have experience with the adult work industry, we care about Sex workers getting proper advice from their accountants and being empowered to run their businesses with the support needed.
